The Difference
Most accounting falls into two camps. We built a third.
Neither DIY spreadsheets nor a once-a-year accountant give founders what they actually need — timely numbers they can act on.
| DIY / Spreadsheets | Traditional Accountant | Reckonwell | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How often your books are updated | Whenever you find time | Once a year, at filing deadline | ✓Daily |
| When you find out about a problem | Usually too late | Months after it happened | ✓Within days |
| Who does the work | You | An accountant you speak to once a year | ✓A dedicated finance team member who knows your business |
| Software | Whatever you can figure out | Varies by firm | ✓Xero / QuickBooks, set up properly from day one |
| HMRC & compliance | You handle it, or scramble each deadline | Filed on time, little else | ✓Filed on time, plus daily bookkeeping so nothing is ever a surprise |
| What it costs you | Your time (the real cost) | Often unpredictable, scope creep | ✓Transparent pricing — see your exact price in 2 minutes |
We're not just another compliance box-tick. We're the finance function most founders wish they had.

Local Context
Working With Soho Businesses
Soho is part of Westminster and has historically been the centre of London's media, advertising, film, and post-production industry — Wardour Street and the surrounding streets remain home to a dense cluster of production companies, agencies, and freelance creatives. Alongside that, Soho has a thriving hospitality and restaurant trade, with a high concentration of independent restaurants and bars. The compliance picture spans two distinct worlds: creative-industry-specific considerations including freelancer and contractor-heavy payroll, project-based invoicing, and the occasional limited company structure for a sole director, alongside hospitality VAT treatment and the bookkeeping requirements of cash-heavy businesses.
Reckonwell is a fully remote practice — there's no office near Dean Street or Wardour Street. That means no scheduling around Soho's notoriously difficult parking, no waiting rooms. Onboarding takes 48 hours, everything runs through Xero, QuickBooks, or FreeAgent, and your accountant is reachable directly. For creative businesses that work project-to-project, that flexibility tends to be a better fit than a traditional local firm.
Compliance Deadlines
MTD & Companies House — what applies to you
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax became mandatory from 6 April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with gross qualifying income over £50,000, based on your 2024/25 Self Assessment return. If that's you, you're already required to keep digital records and file quarterly updates rather than a single annual return — the first quarterly deadline for the 2026/27 tax year fell on 7 August 2026. The threshold drops to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028, so many more Soho sole traders and landlords currently below the £50k line will be brought into MTD over the next two years. We handle the quarterly submissions directly, so you're not tracking deadlines across four separate filings a year.
For limited companies, Companies House filings and Corporation Tax remain unaffected by the MTD ITSA rollout — annual accounts and CT600 deadlines still apply as before. If you're running a limited company from Soho and also have personal rental income or self-employment earnings above the threshold, both sets of obligations run in parallel, which is where most of the confusion — and most of the missed deadlines — tends to happen. We track both for clients who fall into that overlap.
